Nutrition Tips from Carla Coriaty- Hulla RDN, CDN

At the end of December, we hosted a Zoom with Carla Coriaty- Hulla RDN, CDN. We touched on a handful of topics, ranging from Type II Diabetes to gut health and the impact of toxins. Below are some of the best pieces of advice she had to offer:

Type II Diabetes:

Within the U.S, Type II Diabetes has steadily increased over time. As Carla pointed out, in the first two years of Covid, there was a 77% increase in Type II diabetes in the U.S.

What causes Type II Diabetes:

1) Insulin Resistance

2) Sugar Surplus

Why the protein and dairy sources you choose matter

The Gut:

A second topic that Carla focused on was the gut. In our bodies, the gut has many functions, such as being responsible for the breakdown of food, the absorption of nutrients, and excreting waste. The following clips focus on the gut's structure, how to strengthen it, and how toxins interfere with it.

What is our Gut’s Microbiome and how does it relate to Leaky Gut Syndrome?

What is butyrate and how does it help our colon

What toxins and substances can impact the bacteria in our guts?

In addition to Leaky Gut, what else can a lack of bacteria in our guts cause?

How to limit the toxins you consume when cooking and eating/drinking
